Proposed change in consumption tax and alterations with

regard to Formosan sugar,

The vernacular press states that the Government

proposes shortly to alter the consumption tax on sugar.

The new rates are tentatively given as follows:-

It will be seen therefore on comparing the sug-

gested rates with the present ones that not only have

6 classes been substituted for 4 but that the rates

have been reduced, especially that the rate for sugar

below No.15 has been decreased by 50 sen per 100 kin.
